NeighborhoodsAustin – North Central
Development began in these distinctive, close-in neighborhoods of Allandale and Crestview in the 1940’s. Now, many of the houses are being renovated and redeveloped. These homes are generally in the 1,000-2,500 square foot range. Styles include one-story ranch homes on slab foundations and bungalows on pier and beam foundations. Newer subdivisions further north include Wells Branch, Bratton Park, Scofield Farms, Lamplight Village, Preston Oaks, Northwood, Hidden Estates, and Tanglewild Estates. Homes range from 35 year-old ranch style homes starting at 1,400 square feet to new, 3,000+ square feet Tuscan-style. Several of these newer subdivisions have community parks and pools. Two stations on the Capitol Metro Rail (2008) in the area of North Lamar and Highland Mall will serve much of the Crestview area. Sheffield Park and Pool are located in central Allandale, offering swimming, baseball, tennis, picnicking and more. Shopping and restaurants abound. The Domain, a very recent large retail and housing community, including Neiman Marcus and Whole Foods is here. The area includes the Northridge Campus of Austin Community College, The University of Texas at Austin J.J. Pickle Research Campus. Corporate sites include IBM, National Instruments, and Freescale.
