East Austin Information & Resources

The East Austin region extends east and northeast from The University of Texas at Austin and downtown. Mueller, a new “city within the city,” is home to the Dell Children’s Hospital and includes a broad range of homes, 140 acres of parks plus places to shop, dine, bike and jog. Established nearby subdivisions include Delwood, University Hills, Windsor Park, French Place and Wilshire Woods.

Just east of downtown across I-35 redevelopment is ongoing, with lots of “Green Building,” urban architecture and condominium projects and wonderful local restaurants. The Millennium Youth Entertainment Complex, The Carver Library, the Eastview Austin Community College campus, and Huston Tillison University are all located here.

Fiesta Gardens runs along the shores of Lady Bird Lake and located further east is Hornsby Bend Bird Observatory, one of the best birding sites in Texas.

In the northeast part of Austin are areas of tremendous growth, sparked by the high tech companies, including, Samsung, Applied Materials, and Dell. Bordering this area to the north is Pflugerville, once a small town, home to many recent subdivisions and parks. Highway 130 runs through here, with much new development occurring along its right-of-way. Walter E. Long Lake (Decker Lake) provides area fisherman with hours of fun and is home to Rodeo Austin just one of many events held at the Travis County Expo Center.

Neighborhoods include Four Seasons, Pioneer Crossing, Windsor Hills, Harris Branch, Brookhollow, and Meadows at Trinity Crossing.

East Austin Schools

Austin Independent School District (AISD) public schools include:
Elementary schools: Allan, Andrews, Blackshear, Blanton, Campbell, Govalle, Harris, Maplewood, Matthews, Metz, Norman, Oak Springs, Ortega, Pecan Springs, Sanchez, Sims, Winn, and Zavala.
Middle schools: , Bailey, Dobie, Kealing, Martin, and Pearce. Kealing is a magnet for math and science.
High schools: Austin, Garza, Johnston, McCallum, LBJ, and Reagan. McCallum is home to the Fine Arts Academy. LBJ is home to the Liberal Arts and Science Academy.
